Amapa-based Afro fashion brand debuts at Brasil Eco Fashion Week

Rejane Soares, a designer from Amapá and creator of the Afroamapalidade collection, is set to bring essence, ancestry, and the voice of the periphery to the national stage.

For the first time, an Afro fashion brand from Amapá will represent the state in a major national fashion event. Afroamapalidade is one of four representatives from the Northern Region at Brasil Eco Fashion Week, the country’s largest sustainable fashion event. This year's edition, themed "Bioeconomy and Cooperation," will feature 25 fashion shows and take place from December 13th to 15th, 2024, at the Frei Caneca Convention Center in São Paulo.

Afroamapalidade is known for using fabric scraps to create pieces that celebrate African heritage and inclusivity. Staying true to its ethos, the current collection is crafted from remnants of the brand’s past three collections. It blends modern and traditional African styles, promoting sustainability while honoring cultural roots and celebrating the strength of women from the periphery.

Rejane Soares shared that her goal is to carve out space for more Black women in fashion while paying homage to the ancestry of Black women. This milestone reinforces the transformative power of inclusivity and representation in Brazil's fashion landscape.
