Cecilia Niemes Sanchez: The Fashion influences people's character
Exuding elegance and grace, Cecilia Niemes Sanchez, Miss Ecuador 1990, made a distinguished appearance as the guest of honor at Bolivia’s premier fashion week. At 45, the accomplished businesswoman and model shared her veteran perspective on the "secrets" of the trade, noting the profound psychological impact of clothing. Speaking with EL DEBER Digital, she emphasized that fashion is more than aesthetic, asserting that it fundamentally influences an individual's character and mood.

In her capacity as Vice President of the Latin American Fashion Week Association, Niemes highlighted the vital importance of regional collaboration. While this visit marks her first time in Bolivia, she has long been a proponent of the country’s creative output, closely following Bolivian designers through international runways and specialized industry programs. She maintains that a robust exchange of talent is essential to creating sustainable opportunities for the next generation of creators entering this high-pressure field.

Reflecting on her connection to the region, Niemes noted that her admiration for Bolivian style dates back to 2005, when she met television presenter Sandra Cossio at Miami Fashion Week. Since then, she has remained well-acquainted with the local scene, praising the "transcendent" talent of both emerging designers and established icons. For Niemes, the success of these artists on the global stage serves as a testament to the sophistication and growing influence of the Bolivian fashion world.

Heidy Estrada, who just participated in Miami Fashion Week (in March 2013), is the newest talent we have, but there are many great designers here. The thing is, entering a business that generates $400 billion a year is very difficult. It's an industry that involves supplies, zippers, and other things. Fashion isn't just the finished product.
LFM : Which designers stand out internationally?
We've had some very prominent figures in recent years, such as Edgar Sajar from Colombia; former Miss Universe Barbara Palacios from Venezuela; Ricky Sarkany from Argentina; as well as renowned designers from the United States and other Latin American countries. All of them have participated in Ecuador Fashion Week.
LFM : And Bolivian designers…?
From Bolivia we had the presence of Rosita Hurtado, Nagera Nacif, who had a fantastic presentation last year; Galo Sanchez, Adriana Echeverria, Vanessa Barbery, who is a Bolivian living in the United States, and Heidy Estrada, a young woman who won the Beth Sobol International Fashion Award last year.
LFM : What does it take to make it big in the fashion world?
You need a mentor or someone like me who believes in the world of fashion and who carries the message that there is talent in our countries, because getting an opportunity like the Beth Sobol International Fashion Award, where a designer from anywhere in Latin America is not charged, is important.
LFM : How much does the fashion world contribute to the economy?
The numbers vary every year, but we Latin Americans love fashion.
